The Lap Band Surgery and Its Possible Cures

Obesity-related medical conditions like high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and type 2 diabetes can become deadly if not taken care of in a timely manner. Most of these deadly medical conditions have always had a strong link to obesity.

Some of the best sleep apnea help that a patient can get is to undergo weight loss surgery such as the lap band. This surgery helps a person lose a significant amount of weight, which would help with related diseases such as high blood pressure. This surgery can also provide infertility solutions to patients struggling to conceive, as infertility is also directly related to the hormones produced by a body with large fat cells.

While there is no known cure for many obesity-related diseases, lap band surgery may be an effective high blood pressure cure and type 2 diabetes cure. When an individual has type 2 diabetes, the body does not respond correctly to insulin. This is called insulin resistance. Insulin resistance means that fat, liver, and muscle cells do not respond normally to insulin. As a result, blood sugar does not get into cells to be stored for energy. People who are overweight often lack energy because of the insulin resistance. With the lap band system, as the person becomes healthier, a patient will begin to notice the positive changes in their body, which often include the disappearance of symptoms relating to diseases like high blood pressure as well as type 2 diabetes.

The lap band helps patients that have tried diet and exercise and have not seen results from doing so. The lap band procedure is less invasive and has a faster recovery time than other popular weight loss surgeries.

Most lap band procedures are done laparoscopically, leaving small incisions that will become barely visible. This operation is an outpatient procedure which means that if the lap band surgery went well, a patient could be heading home the same day. Lap band surgery is known for it’s quick recovery time. Most patients are able to resume normal activities within 5 to 6 days after surgery.

The lapband comes with a port that is implanted right under the first few layers of skin in the abdomen.

This port is where the adjustments are made to the lap band. Saline is injected into the port with a small needle. Right after this adjustment, patients will notice the difference in their eating habits. This is especially so since, after their initial adjustment, patients are put on a liquid diet for a day to make sure that lap band is not too tight. If the band were too tight, the patient would go back to their bariatric doctor to remove some saline from band. There is no need for another operation after this, since everything is done through the port. It takes no more than 60 minutes to be done with surgery.
