Going through the >naturalization and immigration process can be scary. After all, you don’t want to do anything wrong!
However, that doesn’t mean you have to make things harder on yourself than they need to be. By following these 3 tips, you can make things a little easier, without breaking any rules:

1. Learn about different forms
As you might expect, there are a ton of different immigration forms to choose from. However, not all of them will apply to you and your specific situation.
So, before you have nightmares about being bogged down in a sea of never-ending paperwork, find out which naturalization and immigration papers you have to fill out and which ones you don’t. A simple “cheat sheet” that explains the differences between all of the various forms can be your new best friend! That way, you won’t wind up wasting your time of forms that have no bearing on your immigration status!

2. Do as much online as you can
You can do just about everything online these days – and filling out immigration forms is no different. There will still be some parts of the naturalization and immigration process that have to be done in person or on an actual sheet of paper. However, you’ll save yourself an awful lot of time (and an awful lot of postage!) if you take full advantage of the world wide web!
In many cases, though, you have to meet certain standards in order to fill out immigration forms online. For example, you may have to fill out your original Green Card application in person. However, if it ever gets lost, damaged, or you change your name (like if you get married), you may be able to fill out a replacement Green Card application online. So, do some checking first!

3. Renew your passport as soon as possible
When you first get a passport, the last thing on your mind is renewing it. However, when it finally comes time to renew your passport, don’t put it off. If you do, you’re going to wind up making things a whole lot more difficult than they need to be.
Why?
If it’s been less than 15 years since you last got a passport, your name is still the same, and your passport isn’t physically damaged in any way, you can renew it online or by mail. But, if you wait too long, you’ll have to renew your passport in person – meaning you’ll have to go downtown, stand in line, and jump through a ton of extra hoops.
